Turkey has officially commissioned the E5000, its first TSI-certified electric mainline locomotive produced domestically through a partnership between TÜBİTAK and TÜRASAŞ.
The new generation locomotive has a minimum power of 5000 kW, is TSI certified, can reach a speed of 140 km/h, and uses an AC-AC drive system. The E5000's traction system, TKYS (Total Speed Management System), transformer, APU (Automatic Pump), and converter unit are largely designed and manufactured using domestic resources.
Türkiye's domestically produced electric mainline locomotive, the E5000, is an important step towards modernizing and localizing the country's railway transportation infrastructure and reducing its dependence on foreign sources.

With the commissioning of the E5000, Türkiye's rail transport will become more efficient, safer, and environmentally friendly. This new generation locomotive, produced with Türkiye's national resources, is an important step towards the country's goals of modernizing its rail transport infrastructure and achieving a more advanced technological production capacity.
