DeltaV Space Technologies became the first company to cross the space boundary with its Sounding Rocket System (SORS) project and use a Hybrid Propulsion System (HPS) prepared for a lunar mission.
Hybrid propulsion is a high-performance, safe, and inexpensive rocket technology that uses paraffin and liquid oxygen fuel. Many countries around the world are developing it, but DeltaV Space Technologies became the first company to take this technology into space and launch it there.
Arif Karabeyoğlu, General Manager of DeltaV Space Technologies and a faculty member at Koç University, gave a speech on SAHA Istanbul channel describing this achievement. Karabeyoğlu emphasized the details of the SORS project, the advantages of hybrid rockets, and the importance of space research.
Karabeyoğlu stated that space studies are very important for Turkey in terms of strategic, economic and scientific aspects. He noted that space technologies contribute to many sectors, offer opportunities for international cooperation and competition, and inspire younger generations. Karabeyoğlu said that hybrid rocket technology will create a significant market in the world and will make a big impact. He stated that DeltaV Space Technologies is a pioneering company in this field.
How many times has Türkiye reached space?
Karabeyoğlu emphasized that the SORS project has been launched 17 times, highlighting that this number represents a significant amount of experience. He also mentioned that these 17 launches have proven the reliability of the rockets. He explained that the hybrid rockets are safe and reliable and have operated successfully in every launch.
HIS Engine Fired for the First Time in Space
Karabeyoğlu noted that the last launch, coinciding with Türkiye's 100th anniversary, was different and significant compared to all other launches. He mentioned that with this last launch, a second-stage firing was performed for the first time, marking the use of the Hybrid Propulsion System in space.
Will DeltaV launch into space from other countries?
Karabeyoğlu stated that Türkiye does not have a geographically suitable and safe launch site, and therefore they had to reduce the rocket's performance by using less fuel or horizontal launch angles. He mentioned that they received an invitation from England, where they could launch the rocket from a steeper angle on an island overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in Scotland, allowing it to easily reach altitudes of 100 km and above.
Karabeyoğlu also emphasized that Türkiye needs to develop in the field of space technologies in terms of both human resources and infrastructure. He explained that space studies are a multidisciplinary field, requiring collaboration between experts from different sectors, and that young people should be encouraged to pursue this field.
How Economical Are DeltaV Hybrid Rockets Compared to Their Competitors?
Karabeyoğlu stated that the cost of launching into space has decreased by a third since the 2000s thanks to the commercial space trend spearheaded by Elon Musk, but moving around in space is still very expensive. He explained that DeltaV Space Technologies aims to develop a vehicle capable of transitioning to different orbits in space using hybrid rocket engines, a project with both commercial and strategic potential.
Karabeyoğlu stated that DeltaV Space Technologies is one of the leading companies in Türkiye and the world in the field of space technologies, and that its hybrid rocket engines have made a name for themselves with their cost-effectiveness and performance.
DeltaV Space Technologies became a source of pride for Türkiye in the 100th year of the Republic. The company, which launched a spacecraft into space, demonstrated the progress Türkiye has made in space exploration.
