Turkey is stepping into the 5G era: Tender Date and Technologies That Will Change Our Lives!

5G era officially begins in Turkey! Minister Uraloğlu announced the tender date.

When will Turkey switch to 5G

Türkiye is preparing to take a historic step that will shape its digital future. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced the eagerly awaited development of this step. The 5G licensing tender will be held on October 16th. He announced that this move will not only increase our internet speed but will also revolutionize many areas, from industry to health, agriculture to transportation. The point that Minister Uraloğlu emphasized most was the high level of domestic and national content required in the 5G infrastructure. This once again demonstrated Türkiye's determination to be a country that not only uses but also produces next-generation technology.

Minister of Transport Uraloğlu Announced: The Countdown to 5G Has Officially Begun!

In a crucial statement, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu emphasized that the process to make Türkiye's digital infrastructure much stronger, faster, and more efficient with 5G has been officially launched. Stating that 5G technology will open a brand new era not only for individuals but for all strategic sectors, Uraloğlu underlined that the process is being carried out meticulously with all stakeholders, saying, "We have conducted intensive technical studies with our operators who successfully provide 2G, 3G, and 4.5G services.".

Tenfold Increase in Internet Speed: Remote Surgery and Self-Driving Cars Become a Reality

So, what will 5G bring to our lives? According to Minister Uraloğlu, the most tangible change will be in mobile internet speeds. Compared to the current 4.5G technology... Up to a tenfold increase in speed. That is expected. However, the real "game changer" feature of 5G is the speed it brings with it. very low latency And the capacity to connect to millions of devices simultaneously.

Minister Uraloğlu summarized the practical implications of these capabilities with the following words: “5G technology, with its very low latency mobile communication and intensive machine-type communication features, will lead to significant changes in business processes in many sectors. For example, fully autonomous driving, remote surgery, smart agriculture, smart factories The opportunities offered by 5G will be utilized in areas such as these.”

This means a surgeon can operate on a patient in another city with millimeter precision, sensors in a field can send real-time data to determine the most efficient irrigation, and robots in factories can communicate with each other in real-time to optimize production.

Kritik Şart: 5G Altyapısında %60 Yerlilik ve Millilik Zorunluluğu Getirildi!

The most strategic and nationally oriented aspect of Minister Uraloğlu's statement was the requirement for domestic content in the 5G infrastructure. Turkey aims to minimize its dependence on foreign sources and strengthen its own technology ecosystem in this technological transformation. In this context, clear obligations have been imposed on the operators who win the tender:

  • %60’a varan oranda yerli ürün kullanma zorunluluğu
  • %30’a kadar milli haberleşme ürünü kullanma zorunluluğu

Uraloğlu stated, "In this way, we will both reduce our dependence on foreign technology and encourage domestic production," adding that this step is a continuation of the experience gained with national projects like ULAK and will elevate Türkiye to the league of countries producing 5G technology.

Smart Cities Are Being Established: Efficiency Will Increase in Every Area, From Traffic to Energy.

Another important area of impact for 5G will be smart city applications. A future awaits us where every object in cities communicates with each other. Minister Uraloğlu stated on this matter, “Smart road applications will increase road safety by detecting and sharing the speeds of objects, and with applications related to the Internet of Things, it will be possible to use parking lots and energy management more efficiently.” This will reduce traffic congestion, instantly identify empty parking spaces, and significantly reduce energy consumption in cities through smart systems.

The timeline is set: The tender is on October 16th, and 5G service begins in April 2026.

Minister Uraloğlu also clearly explained the roadmap for the process. Türkiye's 5G transition schedule will proceed as follows:

  • Auction Date: October 16, 2025
  • Service Start: April 1, 2026

From this date, mobile operators will complete the necessary infrastructure work and gradually begin offering 5G services throughout Türkiye.
