Türkiye's first sub-meter high-resolution Earth observation satellite, İMECE, has successfully completed its first year in space.

This significant project, developed by TÜBİTAK UZAY, has once again proven Türkiye's competence in space technologies on a global scale. The İMECE Satellite was designed, manufactured, and tested entirely with domestic resources. Launched from Vandenberg Space Base on April 15, 2023, the satellite has been successfully performing its mission in orbit for a year.

The İMECE Satellite, a marvel of domestic and national technology, houses a series of innovative satellite components developed by Turkish engineers. Components such as the flight computer, high-resolution electro-optical satellite camera, communication equipment, data compression and formatting equipment, power subsystem, response wheel, sun sensor, star trackers, and global positioning system receiver were all developed entirely domestically.

The main application areas of the İMECE Satellite are as follows:

  • Target Identification and DetectionThe satellite provides high-resolution images that can be used for target identification and detection.
  • Natural Disaster MonitoringIt provides critical data for monitoring and managing natural disasters.
  • Agricultural PracticesIt gathers information necessary to increase productivity in the agricultural sector.
  • Mapping and Geographic Information SystemsIt enables mapping and geographical analysis using ground observation data.
