First in Turkey: Swarm of 20 KARGU UAVs Hit Targets with Accuracy

A first in Turkey! STM successfully completed the test in which 20 KARGU UAVs attacked in a swarm. Details of the domestic technology that hits targets with swarm intelligence.

The Turkish defense industry has proven its Swarm UAV Attack capability in the field, one of the most destructive and difficult-to-stop concepts in the asymmetric warfare arena. STM, a pioneer in tactical mini-UAV systems, achieved a first in Türkiye by successfully completing a test in which 20 KARGU Strike UAVs moved autonomously in a swarm simultaneously and destroyed targets with live ammunition.

The Swarm Attack concept, known as the nightmare of air defense systems, is turning from theory to practice for Turkey. STM Defense announced a national engineering marvel on its social media account. In a test conducted with a swarm of 20 KARGU drones, controlled by a single operator or an artificial intelligence algorithm, the company successfully neutralized targets with pinpoint accuracy.

The key difference that sets this test apart from a typical drone attack lies in Swarm Intelligence technology. While traditional methods require one operator per drone, thanks to the algorithms developed by STM, 20 KARGU drones can maintain distance between them, avoid collisions, share tasks, and move as a single unit.

In the test that was conducted:

  • Coordination: 20 KARGU drones took off and performed formation flights.
  • Autonomy: The swarm autonomously navigated to the target area and assigned tasks without requiring human intervention.
  • Destruction: The designated targets were hit with pinpoint accuracy by the swarm members performing kamikaze dives.

Saturation Attack for Air Defense

The capability demonstrated by STM forms the basis of the strategy known in military literature as a saturation attack. While conventional air defense systems can intercept one or several targets simultaneously, they become helpless against 20 or more kamikaze UAVs approaching in a coordinated manner.

This achievement, a first in Türkiye, demonstrates that KARGU can be used not only against individual targets in counter-terrorism operations but also as a force of mass destruction against armored units, radar stations, or base areas in conventional warfare.
