TURKSAT 6A Completes Second Year in Orbit: Eyes Now on TÜRKSAT 7A

Türkiye's first indigenous communications satellite, TÜRKSAT 6A, has been operating in orbit for two years since its launch on 9 July 2024. The engineering expertise acquired will form the foundation for TÜRKSAT 7A.

Türksat 6A

Türkiye's first indigenous and national communications satellite, TÜRKSAT 6A, continues to successfully carry out its mission in space as it completes its second year since launch. Launched into space on 9 July 2024 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, the satellite was developed under the project leadership of TÜBİTAK UZAY, drawing on the expertise and labour of Turkish engineers.

Two Years of Uninterrupted Service

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, in a post marking the satellite's second anniversary, stated: "The journey of our national star in the Space Homeland, TÜRKSAT 6A, began exactly two years ago. Today, that journey continues with pride as Türkiye's signature in space – transforming dreams into goals and goals into reality."

TÜRKSAT 6A has been recorded as a strategic project that has made Türkiye one of 11 countries capable of producing its own communications satellite. Positioned at 42 degrees east orbital slot, the satellite provides communications services across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and large parts of Asia.

TÜRKSAT 6A Experience Provides Foundation for New Projects

The engineering capability, expertise and technological infrastructure gained through TÜRKSAT 6A provide a strong foundation for next-generation communications satellites and space projects, particularly TÜRKSAT 7A. TÜBİTAK UZAY had the opportunity to transfer this expertise to the international market during cooperation meetings in Malaysia last month, where Malaysia's communications satellite needs were assessed and potential cooperation models were discussed in light of the experience gained from the TÜRKSAT 6A project.

The journey of indigenous and national communications satellites continues to strengthen with each new project, carried forward into the future. TÜRKSAT 6A's success remains one of the most concrete indicators of Türkiye's space vision and engineering strength, maintaining its place in orbit.
