Vestel Elektronik has won a competition law lawsuit against Samsung and LG group companies in the Netherlands. The court ordered Samsung and LG to pay Vestel 684 million 400 thousand euros in compensation.
In 2014, Vestel filed a lawsuit in the Netherlands against Samsung and LG group companies, alleging that they had formed a cartel in the production of CRT screens used in television manufacturing and had driven up prices. Vestel claimed that this cartel harmed it and other television manufacturers, excluding them from the market and causing them to lose their competitiveness. Vestel demanded a total of 2 billion 53 million 200 thousand euros in compensation for these damages.
The East Brabant Regional Court in the Netherlands partially accepted and partially rejected the case on February 5, 2024. The court ordered two companies, TTD International SAS and TDP SP. ZOO, to pay Vestel €684,400,000 in compensation. Vestel's claims against the other defendants were rejected. The court's decision and the amounts specified are not yet final, and the parties have the right to appeal. Vestel has stated that it will exercise its right to appeal the part of the decision that ruled against it.
This case can be considered a significant step in Vestel's fight in the field of competition law. Vestel is one of Türkiye's leading electronics and white goods manufacturers. Vestel competes in both domestic and international markets with its innovative, high-quality, and affordable products. Vestel also develops environmentally friendly, energy-efficient, and smart technologies.
