HÜRKUŞ, a new generation training and light attack aircraft developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), successfully tested ASELSAN's LGK-81 munition equipped with a laser guidance kit.
HÜRKUŞ thus gained the ability to transform general-purpose bombs into precision-guided munitions, enabling it to strike stationary or moving targets with high accuracy.
The LGK-81 is a guidance kit that transforms the 250-pound MK-81 general-purpose bomb into an economical and smart munition. The LGK-81 guides the bomb to a target marked by a laser-projected marker. It extends the firing envelope, reduces collateral damage, and allows for mid-air target change after launch.
HÜRKUŞ has integrated the LGK-81, Roketsan's L-UMTAS laser-guided long-range anti-tank missile system, the CİRİT laser-guided missile, TÜBİTAK SAGE's MAM-L mini smart munition, and the TOGAN weapon system. Additionally, a flare system developed by EHSİM, providing protection against guided missiles, has been added to HÜRKUŞ.
HÜRKUŞ is designed to meet the basic and advanced flight training needs of the Turkish Armed Forces. Additionally, the HÜRKUŞ-C version, which can also be used in close air support missions, offers a cost-effective, efficient, and flexible solution against today's asymmetric threats. HÜRKUŞ-C has a high payload capacity of up to 750 kg for missions that need to be performed in day and night conditions, at high altitudes, and in challenging geographical areas.
HÜRKUŞ is named after Vecihi Hürkuş, a pioneer of Turkish aviation and the first Turkish aircraft manufacturer. Vecihi Hürkuş built the Vecihi K-VI, Türkiye's first aircraft, and established the country's first civilian flight school.
