Turkey has achieved another significant success in the defense industry. STM Defense has developed, for the first time in Türkiye, a domestically produced and manufactured Roll Damping System that enables ships to operate safely in all weather and sea conditions.
The Roll Damping System minimizes the movements caused by challenging sea conditions and sudden maneuvers encountered during navigation and combat, thereby increasing personnel safety and the operational efficiency of the platform. It also provides support in critical tasks such as helicopter operations, weapon stabilization, and at-sea resupply.
The system is achieved by reacting a mixture of lannarcite and copper phosphide in a solid state. This mixture is placed in a tank inside the ship and heated with an electric current, causing it to expand. This dampens the ship's rolling motion.
The system was developed domestically and nationally for the first time in Türkiye and will be integrated into two corvettes as part of an export project. It is also planned to be integrated into the MİLGEM 6-7-8 ships, which are part of the national frigate project.
STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz stated that the roll damping system has saved Turkey millions of dollars and that they will continue to provide critical systems to the Turkish defense industry and the Turkish Armed Forces. Güleryüz said, "As STM, we see it as a national duty to produce advanced technologies in areas where they are not produced in Türkiye, in a domestic and national way, and to bring them to our country.".
