Turkey has taken a major step in the field of defense industry by further deepening its cooperation with NATO ally Spain. The Head of the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB), Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, announced today, December 20, 2024, that a significant Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the Spanish Ministry of Defence for the HÜRJET Jet Training Aircraft Project.
The agreement, as part of Türkiye's strategy to increase its independence and technological capabilities in the defense industry, involves sharing domestically produced technologies with friendly countries. This important step not only strengthens military cooperation between the two countries but also increases Türkiye's global influence in the defense industry. Attendees at the signing ceremony included the TUSAŞ team, the Turkish Ambassador to Madrid, and the Turkish Armed Forces Attaché.
Spain has been a member of NATO since 1982 and has a long-standing alliance with Turkey. This agreement will further deepen military and technological cooperation between the two countries, contributing to NATO's future military strength. Spain's experience in the defense industry and Türkiye's technological innovations will create synergy in this project. This cooperation is not limited to the military training aircraft project but also forms a foundation for broader future defense projects.
