Within the scope of the BORAN Air-Transportable 105 mm Towed Howitzer Project, which aims to meet the Turkish Armed Forces' need for modern 105 mm howitzers with domestic capabilities, a serial production contract was signed between the Presidency of Defence Industries and the Machinery and Chemical Institute on April 27, 2023.
Thus, serial production of BORAN will begin, and deliveries will be made to meet the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces. The aim of this project is to provide the Turkish Armed Forces with modern and effective artillery systems.
Developed by MKE in line with the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces, the BORAN Air-Transportable Howitzer is designed for use in air and ground operations.
BORAN, with its 105 mm 30 caliber barrel and long-range ammunition, offers a firing range exceeding 17 km. Capable of firing 6 rounds per minute, the howitzer is operated by 5 personnel and can take up its position in less than a minute.
BORAN, which can be transported by Sikorsky S-70 helicopters and various light vehicles, has a highly transportable structure with a total weight of 1745 kg (including the Fire Control system).
BORAN can perform all types of firing missions continuously for 8 hours in temperatures ranging from -32°C to +44°C, with an elevation range of -3° to +70° and a flanking range of 8°. It is also equipped with a fire control system, GPS, and a panoramic scope.
Thanks to its advanced fire control system and technical features, BORAN can deploy independently of classic deployment procedures, surpassing its alternatives.

BORAN was designed to support the Turkish Armed Forces' internal security operations, air operations, and commando brigades, and was developed to meet the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces. Developed by MKE, the BORAN Air-Transportable Howitzer was created in line with Türkiye's goals of producing domestic and national technology in the defense industry. Thanks to its technologies, the howitzer will also contribute to the development of the Turkish defense industry.
