In the national air-to-air missile development efforts that began with the Göktuğ project, the GÖKDOĞAN missile successfully reached a target beyond visual range.
The final stage of the national air-to-air missile development efforts initiated by TÜBİTAK SAGE has been completed with the successful engagement of the GÖKDOĞAN missile against a beyond-visual-range target. With this test launch, Turkey has become one of the few countries capable of producing air-to-air missiles that can hit beyond-visual-range targets.
In the short five years since IDEF 17, where the domestically produced air-to-air missiles (GÖKDOĞAN, BOZDOĞAN) were first announced, Turkey has made significant strides in air-to-air missile development. Following successful test firings against both line-of-sight and beyond-sight targets, the Turkish Air Force's dependence on foreign sources in this field has been eliminated.
It will be one of the main weapon systems of the National Combat Aircraft.
The domestically produced air-to-air missiles will be one of the most important weapon systems that can be placed both inside and outside the fuselage of the National Combat Aircraft. In the export successes to be achieved with the National Combat Aircraft, air-to-air missiles will play a role as weapon systems that will strengthen Türkiye's hand in exports.
Technological advancements from air-to-air missiles will also be used in air defense missiles.
Technological advancements (sensors, engine technologies, software) obtained from air-to-air missiles, considered the cutting edge of missile technology, will undoubtedly make a significant contribution to Türkiye's development of advanced air defense missiles.
