In August 2015, Turkey will be introduced to ARUNA, the country's first four-seater solar-powered car. ARUNA, which consumes only 1 kuruş (Turkish cent) of energy per kilometer, uses as much energy as a household water heater when traveling at 70 km/h.
ITU Solar Car Team (ITU GAE), which believes that ARUNA will contribute to the serious development of domestic automobile projects, is quite ambitious about its new vehicle.
Starting from Istanbul in August, ARUNA will embark on a tour of Turkey, visiting 16 cities before returning to Istanbul. In October, they will cross continents and travel to Australia to represent our country in the World Solar Challenge, which has been held annually since 1987. Aiming to bring new pride to the students of Istanbul Technical University and our country, our students say, "We want to be the first Turkish team to complete the 3,000 km WSC race course in Australia, showcasing the progress Türkiye has made in renewable energy and electric vehicle technologies.".
The ARUNA, whose design was completed in January 2015, was delivered to Hexagon Studio for mold production. Following the production of its electronic circuits and mechanical components, assembly is expected to be completed in June, and the car is expected to be roadworthy in July 2015.
