Baykar, Türkiye's leading unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) manufacturer, became the world's fastest-growing defense industry company in 2023.
According to a report published by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Baykar achieved a revenue of $1.2 billion in 2023, rising to 76th place among the world's top 100 defense companies. Baykar became the fourth Turkish company to be included in this list.
Baykar's success is rooted in its focus on developing high-tech products. The company's CEO, Haluk Bayraktar, stated, "The secret to success lies in technological focus. We achieve success by developing a single high-tech product, like the Bayraktar TB2 UAV, to be the best in the world. Instead of making dozens of mediocre products, we focus on just one niche product and strive to make it the best in the world.".
Baykar also holds a significant position in the export market. In 2022, the company generated 85% of its sales from exports. In 2023, it expects export revenue to exceed 90% of total sales. Besides Türkiye, Baykar sells UAVs to countries such as Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Qatar, Tunisia, Morocco, and Pakistan.
Baykar aims to strengthen its position in the defense industry with new platforms. The company is developing a new generation combat UAV called AKINCI SİHA. AKINCI is described as a UAV capable of both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, possessing high altitude and long range capabilities, and equipped with advanced weapon and sensor systems. Baykar plans for AKINCI to reach full operational capability in 2024.
Baykar is seen as a company that increases Türkiye's independence and strength in the defense industry. The company has become a respected brand both domestically and internationally. Baykar aims to maintain its leadership in the defense industry in the future through technological innovations.
