Turkey and Malaysia have taken a significant step in the field of defense industry. A "G2G Memorandum of Understanding on the Procurement of Defence Products" and a "Letter of Acceptance (LoA) Delivery Ceremony for the Batch 2 Project Coastal Duty Ship (LMS) to be supplied to the Royal Malaysian Navy" were held between the two countries.
This agreement marks Malaysia's first state-to-state contract for the procurement of defense products, and it was signed with Turkey. Under this agreement, three corvettes, designed and customized by STM to meet the requirements of the Royal Malaysian Navy, will be built in Türkiye as part of the Littoral Mission Ship Batch-2 (LMSB2) Project.
The ceremony took place at the Presidency of Defence Industries of the Republic of Turkey. The signing ceremony, attended by Malaysian Defence Minister Dato Seri Mohamed Khaled bin Nordin and the President of the Presidency of Defence Industries of Turkey, Haluk Görgün, is seen as a demonstration of the deepening defence cooperation between the two countries.
This collaboration demonstrates Türkiye's significant position in defense industry exports and strengthens its role as an active player in the global defense market. Turkey has made great strides in the development and production of defense industry products in recent years. This agreement with Malaysia is considered a reflection of Türkiye's success in this field.
The vessels to be procured for the Royal Malaysian Navy under the Coastal Duty Ship (LMS) Batch 2 Project will enhance Malaysia's capacity in regional and maritime security. These ships offer versatile capabilities, enabling them to perform a wide range of tasks from search and rescue operations to environmental protection activities.
The corvettes to be built by STM for the Royal Malaysian Navy are designed to meet modern warfare requirements. These ships, 99.56 meters length, 2500 tons away, 26 knot maximum speed and 111 people It will have personnel capacity. In terms of armament, 76 mm main gun, 30 mm MUHAFIZ (Smash) Remote Controlled Stabilized Gun System, ATMACA Anti-Ship Missile And HAVELSAN Combat Management System They will include advanced equipment such as helicopter landing platforms and are designed to offer superior maneuverability in various sea conditions.
This agreement between the two countries is also of strategic importance for Türkiye in terms of diversifying its defense industry exports and opening up to new markets. Turkey aims to achieve a competitive position internationally by exporting its defense industry products to many countries around the world.
It is hoped that this agreement between Turkey and Malaysia will further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense industry and contribute to regional security and stability. Furthermore, this cooperation will positively contribute to the development of economic and technological relations between the two countries.
