The FNSS SAMUR mobile floating assault bridge has renewed confidence in recent tests by successfully transporting the AYS70T weight class ALTAY tank with its dual transport team, even in shallow depths.
What is the FNSS SAMUR Mobile Floating Assault Bridge?
SAMUR is the first original design and development project of the Turkish Land Defense Industry to be awarded a contract. The SAMUR System is a transport team and bridge system designed to meet the tactical operational needs of the Turkish Armed Forces, enabling rapid and safe passage across watery obstacles in the battlefield.
Equipped with a diesel engine, automatic transmission, pneumatic suspension system, and hydraulic braking system, the SAMUR System is capable of driving on land in forward and reverse directions on a incline and a lateral incline. It also has the capability to drive in water and maneuver 360° thanks to two pump jets.
The SAMUR system, consisting of a single military load class (AYS) 21 tracked vehicle, a dual transport team formed by combining two systems side-by-side (AYS 85 tracked vehicle), and a triple transport team formed by combining three systems side-by-side via ramps (AYS 120 wheeled vehicle), is capable of carrying multiple vehicles. Twelve SAMUR systems can be assembled to form a 150-meter-long bridge, enabling vehicles to cross between shores. Designed to make the best use of limited time during combat, the system allows for the deployment of a dual transport team in a maximum of 10 minutes. The SAMUR system prioritizes safety with features such as a recovery winch, automatic fire suppression system, fixed fire extinguishing system, portable fire extinguishers, and a positive pressure fire suppression system.
