What is an Electromagnetic Launch System (EMFS) SLING?
The Electromagnetic Launch System (EMFS) SAPAN is a system used to accelerate and launch projectiles using only electrical energy. Similar technology is also used as electromagnetic catapults on aircraft carriers and in satellite launch systems.
The system consists of 4 subsystems:
- Firing and Control Unit
- Pulse Power Supply
- Barrel
- Ammunition
The Electromagnetic Launch System Project SAPAN, a technology accumulation project, was supported by TÜBİTAK SAVTAG. The aim of the Electromagnetic Launch System Project SAPAN is to utilize hypersonic munitions against time-critical targets and those requiring air defense protection.
