The Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Faculty of Naval Architecture and Marine Sciences' ITU Solar Boat Team came in third place in the world at the competitions held in Iowa, USA on June 11, 2011.
Students from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) participated in this year's competitions with their boat named ODABAŞI, after Prof. Dr. Yücel Odabaşı, a faculty member of the Faculty of Naval Architecture and Marine Sciences who passed away last year. The team, which managed to finish third among 22 American teams, won five awards in the competition: best system design, best design, first place in the slalom (maneuvering) stage, second place in the sprint (speed) stage, and the second best technical report award.
