Otokar, one of Türkiye's largest land systems manufacturers, has submitted a mass production proposal to the Undersecretariat of Defense Industry for the Altay main battle tank, which it designed and prototyped.
Otokar, a Koç Group company, has submitted its proposal to the Undersecretariat of Defense Industry for the mass production of the Altay tank within the scope of the "Modern Tank Production Project with National Capabilities". Otokar, Türkiye's only land systems manufacturer without a foreign partner, was selected as the main contractor in 2008 for the design, prototyping, and qualification process of the Altay, known as Phase 1. The qualification and acceptance tests of the prototypes produced in the first phase were successfully completed in February 2017, and the prototypes were accepted and approved. The Undersecretariat of Defense Industry's review and approval process of the Technical Data Package (TVP) is ongoing.
Designed and developed by Otokar in accordance with the needs and expectations of the Turkish Land Forces against current and future threats, the Altay is currently one of the most modern main battle tanks in the world. Distinguished by its enhanced survivability, mobility, and firepower, the Altay has demonstrated superior performance in rigorous tests conducted over the past two years in all climates and terrains. In firing tests conducted in various scenarios across all weather conditions and distances, the Altay achieved a very high accuracy rate.
