Türkiye is preparing to design and manufacture a new generation Small-GEO communications satellite for use in both civilian and military fields.
Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has begun developing satellites based on the "Small-GEO" concept, which is quite new and remarkable for the global market. TAI, which is currently developing and manufacturing satellites, has started working on developing satellites that will meet Türkiye's future military and civilian communication needs. These satellites will offer the same performance as conventional satellites but at a lower cost.
The activities to be carried out within the scope of the Small-GEO Satellite concept aim to reduce launch costs by fitting multiple communications satellites onto a single launch vehicle, and to reduce the mass sent into space by equipping the satellite with new generation electric propulsion systems.
What is Small-GEO?
Small-GEO is a cost-effective communications satellite concept with a relatively compact configuration that can perform traditional communications satellite functions such as television broadcasting, multimedia applications, mobile and fixed internet access, and secure communication without sacrificing performance.
These satellites, described as "Small-GEO" in the global market, stand out due to their lower production and launch costs compared to conventional communications satellites, and their high-performance broadcasting and communication solutions.
