While the frenzy surrounding domestic car production continues in Turkey, a 100% domestically produced tram in Bursa is preparing to hit the roads. Manufactured under the leadership of the Metropolitan Municipality and having successfully passed tests in Europe, the 'Silk Worm' tram will be on the rails by the end of the year at the latest, thanks to the rapid construction of the 6-kilometer line between Kent Meydanı (City Square) and Heykel (Statue). Bursa Metropolitan Mayor Recep Altepe stated that they aim to transport 34,000 people daily with 14 wagons, adding, ’We bought one wagon from abroad for 8 million lira. With our own domestically produced tram, we will save 40%. We will reduce the current account deficit with domestic production.’.
