Seeking solutions to the rapidly dwindling energy resources of the world, students at Pamukkale University have developed a project that will generate electricity from the weight of vehicles passing over speed bumps.
“Ali Çıyancı, one of the project developers, stated that they had been searching for a long time for an answer to the question, "How can we generate energy for streetlights and traffic lights without using existing energy sources?" He continued, "In this context, we have produced speed bumps that generate electricity. In our project, every time a vehicle passes over a speed bump, mechanical energy will be converted into electrical energy. This energy will be stored in batteries and supplied to city lighting and traffic lights. Our aim in starting this project is the depletion of energy resources in the world. We have embarked on a quest to produce more energy sources. We believe that by implementing this project on busy streets, we will provide significant support to the existing energy resources in the world.".
