The first prototypes of Türkiye's first national main battle tank, 'Altay', designed and developed under the main contracting of Otokar, a Koç Group company, were introduced at a ceremony held at Otokar's factory in Sakarya.
Prior to the ceremony, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan inspected the combat vehicles produced by Otokar. Erdoğan boarded a combat vehicle named 'Kaya' and received information from officials regarding its features. Chief of General Staff General Necdet Özel accompanied Erdoğan.
In his speech, Erdoğan stated that with the Altay Project, Türkiye has joined the limited number of countries capable of designing and producing main battle tanks incorporating extremely high technologies, adding, "This project, which will enhance our country's prestige, will make significant contributions to our goal of rising to the top ranks in the global defense league.".
