The sponsors of Aruna, Türkiye's first solar-powered family car designed and produced by the ITU Solar Car Team, gathered at ITU. The event, hosted by ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca, was attended by Istanbul Deputy Governor Engin Durmaz, Galatasaray Sports Club President Dursun Özbek (one of the main sponsors), Galatasaray General Secretary Fatih İşbecer, and other sponsor representatives.
Aruna consumes energy at a cost of 1 kuruş per kilometer and, at an average speed of 70 kilometers per hour, will travel 500 kilometers for 5 lira.
The ITU Solar Car Team, comprised of university students and having won 19 trophies with 7 cars built over 11 years, is proud to have produced Türkiye's first 4-seater family car powered by solar energy. Aruna was designed to support domestic automobile production and demonstrate the applicability of alternative energy in daily life.
