The new Altay Tank, developed with domestic and national resources, has been delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces for the completion of its tests.
The new Altay tank, developed with domestic and national resources, is preparing to enter the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK). Two new Altay tanks, delivered to the TSK for the completion of their tests, are expected to demonstrate superior performance on the battlefield. The features of the new Altay tank are generating considerable interest.
The new Altay tank is described as more than just a third-generation tank. Domestic and national subsystems were used in its design and production. While the tank's armor was strengthened, its self-defense system was reinforced with the AKKOR Active Protection System, developed and manufactured with high technology by Aselsan. Thanks to this system, the tank is protected against armor-piercing rockets. Furthermore, the tank features an advanced camouflage fabric that provides radar invisibility.
The new Altay tank also boasts a very high firepower. It is equipped with a 120 mm, 55-caliber gun developed entirely domestically by the Machinery and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKEK). This gun can fire up to 8 km. The tank's mobility is also best in its class. Despite weighing 65 tons, it can move at a speed of 70 km/h. The tank also features a modern digital cabin and an embedded training simulator.
The new Altay tank also has a lower production cost compared to its competitors. The tank's production was carried out in partnership with the Korean Power Group. It was also stated that work on a domestically produced engine is ongoing for mass production.
The handover ceremony for the new Altay tank to the Turkish Armed Forces took place at the BMC Defense Industry and Technology Inc. facilities in Arifiye, Sakarya. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar, Chief of General Staff Yaşar Güler, and BMC Chairman Ethem Sancak attended the ceremony. Speaking at the ceremony, Erdoğan emphasized that the new Altay tank will contribute to the development of the defense industry.
