TÜRKSAT-6A Project: Turkey's First Domestic Communication Satellite to be launched into space in July

The TÜRKSAT-6A project is nearing completion. The satellite is planned to be launched into space between July 8-14, 2024.

Turkey is taking a significant step in space technology. The TÜRKSAT-6A project, launched in 2014 as Türkiye's first domestically produced communications satellite, is nearing completion. The satellite is scheduled to be launched into space between July 8-14, 2024.

The TÜRKSAT-6A project was launched in 2014 as Türkiye's initiative to produce a domestic and national communications satellite. This project aims to realize Türkiye's 40-year dream in space technologies. Development work on the satellite is being carried out by project partners such as TÜBİTAK UZAY, TUSAŞ, ASELSAN, and CTECH. TÜRKSAT-6A will be Türkiye's first communications satellite produced entirely domestically. Here are the details of the project:;

The production process of TÜRKSAT-6A has been successfully completed, and Türkiye has become one of the 11 countries that can nationally develop and domestically produce communications satellites.

Uydu, %81 yerlilik oranıyla ve 24 çeşit, 84 yerli ekipman kullanılarak geliştirilmiştir. 396 çevresel ve fonksiyonel test başarıyla tamamlanmıştır.

Weighing 4250 kg, TÜRKSAT-6A will be a much larger and more sophisticated product than the previously developed domestic imaging satellites, which weighed 600 kilograms. All critical components of TÜRKSAT-6A, such as flight computers and power distribution regulation units, are manufactured domestically.

The satellite will be launched into a 42-degree east orbit during the week of July 8-14, 2024, and is expected to operate for at least 15 years. After launch, the satellite will be transferred to an orbit at an altitude of 35,786 km. For the first time, Turkish teams will carry out the orbital insertion phase using their own resources, and this operation will provide a significant capability for the Lunar Project.

The reach provided by TÜRKSAT's current 5 active satellites will be expanded with TÜRKSAT-6A to include Indonesia, Malaysia, and India, thus increasing the reach to a population of 4.5 billion.
