The Block-2 version of the long-range ballistic missile TAYFUN, developed by ROKETSAN, has officially entered the Turkish Armed Forces inventory. The delivery news was announced to the public at a press briefing held by the Ministry of National Defence (MoND) in İzmir Seferihisar within the scope of the EFES-2026 Exercise.

MoND Spokesperson Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk announced that the TAYFUN Block-2 Missile was being inducted into the inventory for the first time, also reporting that deliveries of the Fırtına-2 howitzer, the AKINCI offensive unmanned aerial vehicle, and the National Infantry Rifle MPT-76 had also been carried out.

Range of Over 600 Kilometres

According to technical details shared from open sources, the TAYFUN Block-2 has a range exceeding 600 kilometres. This capability makes the system one of the longest-range domestic ballistic missile systems ever announced to the public by Türkiye. The news, which also resonated in the international press, emphasised that the missile can reach hypersonic speeds and possesses high-precision strike capability.

The weight of the TAYFUN missile was announced as 7.2 tonnes. The system, which can be launched from a mobile platform, draws attention with its resilience against electronic warfare systems and its ability to operate effectively in all weather conditions.

The TAF's Most Effective Striking Power

ROKETSAN General Manager Murat İkinci announced the TAYFUN Block-2 on his social media account with the words "It will be the striking power of our Armed Forces." Emphasising that the system was developed entirely with domestic and national engineering capabilities, İkinci stated on his social media account, "TAYFUN Block-2, delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces, will make a critical contribution to the deterrent power of our heroic army."

In a statement on ROKETSAN's official social media account, the expression "Türkiye's power and assurance at long range" was used. It was emphasised that the TAYFUN missile was produced entirely with domestic engineering and technology.

Development Process of the TAYFUN Family

The TAYFUN missile family stands out as a programme demonstrating the technological competence Türkiye has achieved in ballistic missile technology. The Block-1 version of the TAYFUN missile had been tested earlier and inducted into the inventory in limited numbers. The Block-2 features significant improvements in terms of range, accuracy, and warhead capacity.

Defence industry analysts assess that the missile carries Türkiye's long-range strike capability against strategic targets to greater distances and increases the Turkish Armed Forces' operational power. The TAYFUN Block-2's ability to be launched from a mobile platform provides the system with high survivability. Its ability to operate in an electronic warfare environment responds to the requirements of the modern battlefield at the highest level.

Simultaneous Delivery of Four Systems

The mass deliveries announced at the EFES-2026 Exercise demonstrate the Turkish defence industry's production capacity across different fields. The other systems entering the inventory alongside the TAYFUN Block-2 are:

  • Fırtına-2 Howitzer: New-generation domestically produced self-propelled howitzer
  • AKINCI UCAV: Offensive unmanned aerial vehicle developed by Baykar
  • MPT-76: National Infantry Rifle
