The Technical and Economic Feasibility Study for the Indigenous Helicopter Project, to be carried out under the main contracting of TUSAŞ as per the decision of the Defense Industry Executive Committee dated June 15, 2010, was completed in July 2011 and submitted to the Undersecretariat of Defense Industry.
TUSAŞ's infrastructure works, carried out with its own resources, are still ongoing. Within this scope, the construction of the Whirl Tower, designed entirely from scratch, has been completed. The system can be used for aerodynamic, structural, and acoustic improvement studies of helicopter rotor blades with a maximum take-off weight of up to 4.5 tons. The system is planned to enter service in March 2012. The first rotor blades to be tested on the system will be those of the R-UAV (Rotary Wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), which were also designed entirely from scratch and whose production has been completed.
