At the Middle East Technical University (METU), renewable energy research, which has gained momentum in recent years, is beginning to bear fruit.
Established within the university in 2009, the Solar Energy Research and Application Center (GÜNAM) is conducting research on the production of solar cells. GÜNAM Director Prof. Dr. Raşit Turan stated, "We expect the first domestically produced solar cell to be manufactured by the private sector in approximately one year. We will have a significant impact here.".
