AirCar, a new Turkish technology startup and manufacturer of manned aerial vehicles (eVTOL), is attracting attention with its groundbreaking work in the field of autonomous and manned aircraft. Starting as a domestic initiative, AirCar announced that it has begun flight tests and aims to commercialize its aircraft in the near future.
AirCar stands out as a startup founded with the aim of revolutionizing the Turkish aviation sector. Having begun its initial flight tests several years ago, the company has now passed a significant milestone by transitioning to manned flight tests. In an interview with Egirişim, co-founder and CEO Eray Altunbozar mentioned that he personally sat in the pilot's seat during these tests, which were conducted under strict safety conditions. This bold step highlights the company's commitment to safety.
One of AirCar's most striking features is its high safety standards. Designed to meet the standards set for aircraft, AirCar is equipped with a fully redundant system. From flight control boards to motors, batteries to power distribution systems, every component is redundant, aiming to provide a safe flight experience even in the event of a malfunction. All these safety measures are developed and tested according to the requirements of global aviation authorities. AirCar's founder, Eray Altunbozar, summarizes the safety measures taken as follows: "We could produce two AirCars with the systems inside this AirCar.".
AirCar is an aircraft made entirely of carbon fiber and weighing approximately 320 kilograms. With a battery capacity exceeding 40 kW, it operates on a fully electric system. Capable of providing over 1 ton of upward thrust thanks to its large propellers, AirCar stands out for its lightness and high torque. Its interior offers a comfortable cabin upholstered in Napa leather. A screen covering the entire front console provides the pilot with all the necessary information to fly the aircraft. AirCar's range is estimated to be between 50 and 80 kilometers. Designed to fly at an altitude of 3000 meters at a speed of 130 km/h, the aircraft will have a carrying capacity of 250 kilograms. A small luggage compartment for a travel bag is also included at the rear of the vehicle.
AirCar aims to become a part of our lives in the coming years. The startup is continuing its work to determine the pre-sale date and the vehicle's price. Expected to have a price tag between $200,000 and $300,000, AirCar will serve individual users as well as a shared air taxi service. After a short training period, users will be able to operate AirCar like their own vehicle. In an interview, Eray Altunbozar, addressing this topic, stated that they are in discussions with many partners and are continuing their work to solve traffic problems and build a new flying future. He also shared the information that, in the first stage, a landing area could be allocated at Istanbul Airport to facilitate access.
