Türkiye's national unmanned aerial vehicle, AKSUNGUR, achieved a new milestone by flying at an altitude of 30,000 feet with its domestically developed TEI-PD170 engine. This flight was recorded as the highest flight ever made with a domestically produced aviation engine.
The TEI-PD170 is Türkiye's first domestically produced aviation engine. Developed by TEI with the support of the Presidency of Defense Industries to meet the power needs of medium-altitude, long-endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicles such as the ANKA, the engine boasts 170 horsepower. Surpassing its competitors with its two-stage series turbocharger system, the engine can operate on JP-8 or Jet-A1 fuel. Furthermore, thanks to the fully authority digital engine control (FADEC) and software produced and developed by TEI, the engine, developed according to civil aviation standards, has a service ceiling of 45,000 feet.
AKSUNGUR is a domestically developed MALE unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) by TUSAŞ. Capable of remaining airborne for 49 hours and reaching altitudes of over 30,000 feet, AKSUNGUR made its first flight with the TEI-PD170 engine on December 27, 2018, aboard the ANKA platform. In 2021, AKSUNGUR set another record by achieving 35 hours of continuous flight with the TEI-PD170 engine.
