Aselsan has shared test footage of the Active Protection System AKKOR, the main protection system of the new ALTAY tank.

Aselsan shared test footage of the Active Protection System AKKOR, a unique system that serves as the main protection system for the new ALTAY tank, currently undergoing testing and qualification by the Turkish Armed Forces.

Aselsan, which began developing the AKKOR system with its own resources in 2008, signed a contract with the Undersecretariat of Defense Industry in 2010 and commenced production and development activities. Now, the AKKOR system is being used by the Turkish Armed Forces for testing and qualification activities.

AKKOR will create a complete 360-degree protective shield and, thanks to its high-tech radar, will be able to detect incoming rockets or anti-tank missiles in a very short time. Using sensors, it calculates the optimal time to destroy the approaching anti-tank threat, detonating at the moment the threat is closest and neutralizing it. The AKKOR system generally consists of three parts: an ammunition launcher system, threat detection radars, and a decision support computer.

The AKKOR system is significant because it is a high-tech, domestically developed and original product of the Turkish defense industry. Turkey is one of only three countries in the world capable of producing an Active Protection System and integrating it into a platform to ensure its operation.
