The Defence Industry Agency has signed the procurement contract for the land-based ÇAKIR Project to enhance the Land Forces' strategic strike capabilities. In a statement regarding the signing ceremony held at the Defence Industry Agency in Ankara, it was stated: "While deliveries of our BORA and TAYFUN ballistic missiles continue, we are also increasing our deterrence with our ÇAKIR and KARA ATMACA cruise missiles."

ÇAKIR: Land-Based Cruise Missile

ÇAKIR is a cruise missile family developed by ROKETSAN and capable of being fired from different platforms. Its land-based version will be fired from mobile platforms and used against strategic land targets. Versions of ÇAKIR previously developed for naval platforms and aerial vehicles had already been tested. With the land-based version entering the inventory, the long-range precision strike capability of Türkiye's land forces is expected to increase significantly.

KARA ATMACA Also on the Agenda

Another system mentioned in the statement, KARA ATMACA, had previously reached a range of 280 kilometres in test firings. Capable of being launched from a tactical wheeled land vehicle, KARA ATMACA is a long-range cruise missile designed for use against strategic land targets. It stands out for its low radar signature, resistance to jamming and target update capabilities via data link.

More Than 200 Subcontractors Involved

According to the Defence Industry Agency's statement, more than 200 subcontractors, nearly 20 of which are large and medium-sized firms, are involved in the project alongside ROKETSAN. This extensive supply chain demonstrates that the project is not solely a prime contractor activity, but also mobilises different layers of Türkiye's defence industry ecosystem.

Deterrence Architecture Strengthened

In the statement, it was emphasised that serial production capacity is being developed through investments in air defence and missile systems, and that the increasing demands of friendly and allied nations are being met alongside those of the armed forces. Türkiye's ballistic missile family includes BORA and TAYFUN, while its cruise missile family includes ÇAKIR, KARA ATMACA, SOM and ATMACA. These systems are assessed as forming a layered deterrence structure with different ranges and mission profiles.
