TUSAŞ – Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. has released a new promotional video showcasing the mobility, attack, and defense capabilities of the T129 ATAK Attack and Tactical Reconnaissance Helicopter.
Following the contract signed in 2007 for the procurement of 50 helicopters to meet the Turkish Armed Forces' need for "Attack and Tactical Reconnaissance Helicopters," an additional Early Delivery Helicopter (EDH) contract, aiming for the 15-month early delivery of 9 more helicopters, was signed in 2010.
The T129 ATAK, which resulted from modifying the AgustaWestland A129 airframe to meet the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces by changing the engine, transmission, and tail rotors, as well as equipping it with domestically produced avionics and weapon systems, holds the title of being the most effective attack helicopter in its class worldwide.
Designed in two types for close air support and multi-role missions, the T129 ATAK is optimized for challenging "hot weather-high altitude" missions with its heavy weapons load. For close air support missions, the T129 A is equipped with up to 76 70mm unguided rockets and a 20mm cannon with a 500-round ammunition capacity. The T129 B, suitable for multi-role missions, is integrated with the most modern electronic warfare equipment and can simultaneously carry 8 MIZRAK guided anti-tank missiles, 12 CİRİT guided missiles, 2 STINGER missiles, and 500 rounds of cannon ammunition.
