While Turkey awaits the production of a domestically manufactured car by large-scale firms, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs), spearheaded by Anatolian capital, have already begun aircraft production. As a result of work quietly initiated last year by the Ministry of Transport and Turkish Airlines Technical Inc., nearly 50 companies are now producing parts for the domestic aircraft.

According to studies that have not been widely shared with the public until now, THY Teknik took a step towards domestic aircraft production in 2010 by identifying four separate areas: engine, cabin, interior panel, and exterior panel. The most strategic move came in April 2011. A Boeing aircraft belonging to THY was completely dismantled and displayed in a giant hangar. All the parts of the aircraft, which consisted of three million parts, were individually showcased with their specifications and prices. In the organization, which was attended by nearly 300 companies, the companies informed THY Teknik about the parts they could produce. Around 50 companies started working to produce parts for the domestic aircraft. American Boeing, Canadian Bombardier, Brazilian Embraer, and Dutch Fokker also participated in the organization.
