STM Introduces “DAR” Through-Wall Radar for Military and Police.”

Developed entirely by STM, the domestically produced Through-Wall Radar (DAR) uses RF waves to locate objects beyond walls, making it suitable for hostage rescue and urban operations.

Developed entirely with national resources by STM Defence Technologies Engineering, DAR (Through-Wall Radar) is ushering in a new era in the operational capabilities of our security forces. Using Radio Frequency (RF) waves to detect the presence and location of people in enclosed spaces where access is impossible, the system is being deployed to eliminate the risk of unknown identities for our soldiers and police officers behind closed doors.

The Turkish defense industry continues to produce rapid and domestic solutions to the urgent needs of security forces in the field. The recent increase in urban operations and counter-terrorism activities within cities has made the ability to detect threats inside buildings from the outside a vital requirement. Responding to this need, and acting under the coordination of the Undersecretariat of Defense Industry, STM has developed the Through-Wall Radar (DAR) system, which will be a critical multiplier for security forces.

Flawless Detection in Darkness and Through Walls

DAR (Through-Wall Radar) can be used in fire, hostage rescue operations, and raids on terrorist hideouts where identifying people inside a building is critically important.

The system utilizes high-frequency electromagnetic waves as its operating principle. Using the DAR system, it is possible to detect moving people behind obstacles such as brick, drywall, concrete, or wood, and in pitch darkness. By analyzing the reflections of the RF (Radio Frequency) waves it sends to the target, the radar instantly displays the position and direction of movement of the objects inside on the operator's screen.

UGB Technology That Even Detects Breathing

At the heart of the system lies Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology, the device's greatest distinguishing feature. DAR can not only detect people walking or running around a room, but also sense even millimeter-sized movements in the chest cavity of a person hiding, standing still, or sleeping as they breathe.

Thanks to this advanced technology, the precise locations of hostages and terrorists within the room can be determined with pinpoint accuracy before the operation begins, thus maximizing the safety of both our personnel and innocent civilians.

Remote Control for Personnel Safety

Due to the nature of urban operations, flexibility and speed are of paramount importance. Therefore, STM engineers designed the device in a compact structure that can be easily carried and used by a single person.

The system can be used handheld directly against a wall, or it can be set up in the target area using a tripod. When mounted on a tripod, the device can be wirelessly controlled from meters away via a special tablet. This feature allows personnel to monitor behind walls from a safe cover without being a target in a potential line of fire.

A Local Step That Ends External Dependence

In the past, these types of specialized radar systems, which were previously procured from abroad at much higher costs for similar needs, are now being produced in Türkiye with domestic engineering and software. With features such as multi-target detection, 2D positioning, and long battery life, DAR competes in the same category as its counterparts worldwide and is preparing to become one of the most important technological assets in the field, joining the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces and the General Directorate of Security Special Operations units.
