TCG Sancaktar (L-403), one of the world's largest warships and built as part of the Amphibious Ship Project, was delivered to the Naval Forces Command today in a ceremony.
The main mission of LST (Landing Ship Terrestrial Station) amphibious vessels is amphibious operations, transport of vehicles and equipment and troops, and fire support. Equipped with advanced communications, electronics, and command and control capabilities, these ships contribute to operational and logistical tasks, and also possess the capabilities to undertake natural disaster relief missions when needed.
LST amphibious ships, built as single-hulled, displacement type, and entirely steel constructions, have full personnel protection against nuclear, biological, and chemical attacks, and also feature a helicopter platform allowing for the landing and take-off of a 15-ton general-purpose helicopter.
