The contracts for the first National Communications Satellite, Türksat 6A, have been signed.

The project commencement agreement for Türksat 6A was signed at TÜBİTAK Gebze Institute of High Technology.

The project commencement agreement for Türksat 6A, Türkiye's first communications satellite to be developed using domestic resources, was signed today at a ceremony held at TÜBİTAK Gebze Institute of High Technology.

At the ceremony, which was also attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, TÜRKSAT AŞ General Manager Ensar Gül said, "With TÜRKSAT 6A, we are joining the ranks of the 10 countries that can build their own communications satellites.".

The Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, through Türksat Satellite Communications Cable TV and Operations Inc., issued a call for proposals for the construction of Türksat 6A, and TÜBİTAK Space Technologies Research Institute and TAI submitted bids. Türkiye's first domestically produced communications satellite will be manufactured under the leadership of TÜBİTAK Space Technologies Research Institute, with the support of TAI, ASELSAN, and other domestic industrial organizations.

Türksat 6A, which will be produced using domestic resources, is planned to be launched in 2020.
