The command center for the "National Fighter Aircraft" Project, a new generation domestic air-to-air combat fighter jet that will replace Türkiye's F-16 fleet and operate alongside the F-35, has been designated as the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) R&D Center in the METU Technopark.
In the search for fighter aircraft to meet the Turkish Air Force's needs, TUSAŞ was tasked with determining operational requirements for the aircraft, conducting requirements analysis studies, defining the concept of the aircraft and its systems/sub-systems, investigating feasibility with national resources and capabilities, and exploring international cooperation models.
Contract negotiations for the national fighter jet are expected to be completed in the first half of the year, and during this period, work on the defining criteria for the aircraft's design is also expected to be finalized with the Turkish Air Force and the Undersecretariat of Defense Industry.
