Four new platforms joined the Turkish Navy today. TCG Derya, TCG İstanbul, TCG Arif Ekmekçi, and Marlin SİDA were delivered to the navy in Yalova in a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
These platforms stand out as marine vessels built by Türkiye using domestic and national resources.
TCG Derya will be the second largest ship in the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK). Following TCG Anadolu, TCG Derya will further strengthen the TSK's naval capabilities, providing both supply and combat support. The ship will be capable of electronic warfare, unmanned naval and aerial operations, and joint operations. It also features a helicopter landing pad and a hospital section.
TCG Istanbul has made history as Türkiye's first domestically produced frigate. The ship stands out for its domestically developed weapon systems and the highest localization rate. It is equipped with advanced systems such as the Atmaca anti-ship missile, the Hisar air defense missile, and the ÇAFRAD radar system. Furthermore, the ship is capable of effectively combating submarine, surface, and air threats.
TCG Arif Ekmekçi will serve as a logistics support ship. The ship is named after SAT commando lieutenant Arif Ekmekçi, who was martyred. The ship will be capable of performing tasks such as supplying water and fuel to warships, providing electronic support, and conducting helicopter operations. The ship was produced with 80% domestic components.
Marlin SİDA, an unmanned surface vessel, has entered the inventory of the Turkish Navy. The ship was developed as a joint project of ASELSAN and Sefine Shipyard. It is capable of performing tasks such as electronic warfare, reconnaissance and surveillance, security of bases/ports/critical ship facilities, and amphibious operations. The vessel can reach a speed of 36 knots per hour and was named after the marlin fish, a very fast fish.
These four platforms will enhance the strength and capabilities of the Turkish Navy. Turkey continues to produce naval vessels and systems with domestic and national resources to protect its maritime territory.
