ADASTEC has shared a video demonstrating the environmental perception capability of its Level-4 autonomous driving software platform, flowride.ai. In a post from the company's social media account, attention was drawn to the fundamental question of autonomous driving: "Understanding the road means understanding everything around you."
Continuous Perception and Interpretation
According to ADASTEC's statement, flowride.ai, together with the company's sensor suite, continuously perceives and interprets the driving environment. The system seamlessly processes road geometry, lanes, junctions, traffic controls, surrounding traffic and other road users. This processing forms the foundation of flowride.ai's understanding of its surroundings and lays the groundwork for autonomous driving decisions to be made and executed.
According to data shared on ADASTEC's official platform page, flowride.ai's sensor suite is highly comprehensive: 5 Ouster LiDAR units, 6 cameras, high-precision GNSS, automotive radar and all-round ultrasonic sensors. This multi-layered sensor architecture enables the system to perform reliable perception across different weather conditions and light levels.
Operational Design Domain
The operating conditions of flowride.ai are also detailed on the platform's web page. The system is capable of operating on pre-defined, mapped and simulated routes in mixed traffic conditions and at multiple stops. It has operational capability for day and night use, as well as in rain and foggy weather conditions. Maximum speed is limited to 35 mph (approximately 56 km/h), and fully autonomous operation without a safety driver on board is supported along the route.
The system's autonomous driving capabilities include stop management, junction crossings, traffic lights, pedestrian crossing handling, precise positioning and management of traffic participants. On the central control side, functions include operations management, mission management, communication and data sharing.
flowride.ai had previously received approval from the Netherlands' RDW with the Karsan Autonomous e-ATAK, becoming one of the first Level-4 autonomous public transport vehicles validated by a European authority. ADASTEC co-founder Kamil Güçlü, in a statement following the approval process, noted that numerous edge cases had been tested, including pedestrian, cyclist, junction, U-turn and sudden obstacle scenarios.
