Turkey is about to enter a new era in railway transportation. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the first tests of high-speed train sets, produced entirely with domestic resources, will be carried out in 2025.
Minister Uraloğlu stated, "Turkey has become a self-sufficient country in railway technology. The National High-Speed Train Project will be a concrete demonstration of this independence." He announced that the design processes of the project have been largely completed and that the assembly phase will begin in the last quarter of 2024.
The National High-Speed Train Sets stand out with their capacity to reach speeds of 225 km/h. These trains will be produced in sets of 8 cars, each with a capacity of 582 passengers. Technologies used in the trains include ghost screens integrated into doors and partition walls, foldable tables with contactless fast charging stations, comfortable leather and fabric seats, 3D ghost screen technology in the bistro area, and indirect lighting systems.
Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that the train control management system and traction system to be used in the project were also developed domestically. This stands out as a project that declares Türkiye's complete independence in railway technology.
In the final phase of the project, it is planned that the high-speed train will be put on the tracks in the last quarter of 2025 and dynamic road tests will begin. With these tests, it is expected that the high-speed trains produced by Türkiye with its own technology will be ready for passenger transportation.
