Türkiye has achieved a significant milestone in its aviation sector. The TEI-PD170, Türkiye's first domestically designed and manufactured turbodiesel aviation engine, broke the record for the longest flight duration achieved with a domestically produced aviation engine, completing a continuous 35-hour flight aboard TUSAŞ's AKSUNGUR UAV.
This record proves the high performance and reliability of the TEI-PD170 engine. The TEI-PD170 engine had also achieved successful results in previous flights with AKSUNGUR. The engine had also set a record in this area by exceeding an altitude of 30,000 feet. In addition, the engine's fuel efficiency, low emissions, and quiet operation are noteworthy features.
TEI PD170 National Aviation Engine
The TEI-PD170 engine not only contributes to the development of Türkiye's domestic and national defense industry, but also offers new opportunities to the civil aviation sector. The engine is planned to be integrated into various aircraft. The TEI-PD170 engine is seen as a significant step towards increasing Türkiye's independence and competitiveness in the aviation field.
The PD170 is Türkiye's first domestically produced turbodiesel aviation engine. Designed and manufactured by TEI, it was developed specifically to meet the power needs of medium-altitude long-range (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) such as the ANKA. It can produce 172 HP (± 2) of power. It stands out from its competitors with its higher altitude capability and lower fuel consumption. It features a two-stage series turbocharger system. It can operate on JP-8 or Jet-A1 fuel. Its dry weight is 162 kg. The Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) and software were developed by TEI. Developed according to civil aviation standards, the engine has a service ceiling of 45,000 ft. After 8,000 hours of calibration and testing, the engine entered the mass production phase. Its first flight took place on December 27, 2018, with the ANKA platform, and it continued its flights with the AKSUNGUR in 2021.
