Turkey has intensified its efforts in the development of "laser weapons," a field currently under development worldwide, particularly for air defense. ASELSAN is developing a hybrid air defense missile system consisting of a laser weapon and a missile.
The first prototype of the system is being prepared for exhibition. The laser weapon is designed to incapacitate the target at long range and to shoot it down at shorter ranges. ASELSAN will exhibit the prototype, which shows the current design level of the weapon, at the 12th International Defence Industry Fair IDEF-2015, to be held in Istanbul between May 5-8.
