The Turkish aviation industry is securing the global supply chain for the mass production phases of domestic and national platforms with unshakeable assurance. Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has signed a major supply contract with international engine manufacturer GE Aerospace within the scope of the HÜRJET project, Türkiye's first manned jet trainer and light attack aircraft. This strategic agreement, announced through the company's official communication channels, covers the procurement of F404 engines to power HÜRJET platforms for the mass production line. With this move, Türkiye both guarantees the aircraft's production schedule and elevates the platform's export competitiveness in the global market to its peak.

HÜRJET's GE F404 Turbofan Engine

The operational performance and market value of a jet aircraft are directly determined by its powerplant. TAI engineers selected the General Electric-produced F404 turbofan engine family for the heart of the HÜRJET platform. This engine possesses a highly durable architecture that has proven itself repeatedly in the aviation world (combat-proven).

Looking at the technical data, the F404 engine offers immense thrust capacity to the aircraft. The engine produces massive power of approximately 17,700 pounds-force (lbf) when the afterburner is engaged. This high thrust capacity ensures that HÜRJET safely reaches supersonic flights, exceeding the speed of sound. Moreover, the engine's digital electronic control system processes pilot commands within milliseconds. Thus, the aircraft's manoeuvrability and fuel efficiency are maximised. This new supply agreement with GE Aerospace confirms that the system will not remain only at the prototype stage. F404 engines will serve as standard equipment on the mass production line in the future.

Logistics Network Advantage for Export

In the defence industry, producing a platform is as important as being able to sell that system to the global market, requiring strategic insight. HÜRJET's export potential works in direct connection with the global logistics network of the sub-systems used. The F404 engine is actively used in many advanced fighter and trainer aircraft today.

Therefore, TAI's choice of this engine family means that foreign air forces purchasing HÜRJET will face no logistical difficulties. Thanks to this engine, which already has a vast worldwide spare parts and maintenance (MRO) network, customer countries significantly reduce operating costs. The fact that European countries like Spain turned towards HÜRJET for their jet trainer aircraft preferences clearly shows how successful this correct configuration strategy is.

Uninterrupted Production Line

This supply contract signed between TAI and GE Aerospace completely eliminates potential supply risks in HÜRJET's mass production schedule. With this strategic agreement, TAI management will be able to operate the assembly line much faster according to the planned schedule.

In the coming period, the procured new engines are planned to be rapidly integrated into the mass production HÜRJET aircraft rolling off the production line. Türkiye continues to develop international collaborations with a pragmatic approach. Platforms born from national engineering are being equipped with proven global sub-systems. Thanks to this synthesis, the Turkish aviation industry is achieving effective competitive power in the world market.
