Who Will Develop the Domestic Smartphone?
The division of labour in the project has been clarified. ASELSAN will take on the hardware and production side, while Türk Telekom will carry out software, content, marketing, distribution and branding work. Production of the phone will take place in Malatya and will be distributed across the country from there. This structure stands out as a tangible output of the strategic cooperation previously announced between Türk Telekom and ASELSAN.
What Will the Domestic Smartphone Be Called?
The name of the smartphone is also among the topics of interest. Five name proposals will be determined and presented to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. President Erdoğan will decide the phone's name.
How Many Models Will the Domestic Smartphone Have?
The domestic smartphone is expected to go on sale in three different models. The first model will be exclusive to the public sector and protected by an encrypted system. Featuring high-end specifications, this model will only be purchasable by public sector employees. The importance of the encrypted structure lies in the protection of messages and calls through special software, thereby creating an important defence layer against data leaks and cyber security threats.
The second model is positioned as the accessible model. Featuring domestic software and an integrated satellite antenna for use in situations such as disasters, this model's price will be kept at a level everyone can afford. It is planned to have good battery life, processing power and memory.
The third model is designed as the high-end model. Conceived as the higher-spec hardware version of the accessible model, this model will go on sale at a higher price. It is planned to feature a more advanced camera, display, battery life and processor.
What Are the Features of the Domestic Smartphone?
All models of the domestic phone will share certain common features. The phones will include an integrated satellite antenna to ensure uninterrupted communication during natural disasters such as earthquakes or states of emergency. The phones will be manufactured to be resistant to water, dust and drops. Processing power, memory and battery life will meet the requirements of the age. The phone will be made fully compatible with the domestic car Togg.
Who Will Develop the Domestic Smartphone's Operating System?
The phone's software and operating system are also targeted to be domestic. However, there is a two-stage transition plan here. It is expected to begin with an existing operating system currently used in smartphones. Subsequently, the phone's software and operating system are envisaged to be developed indigenously and nationally, with this domestic system then being used.
When Will the Domestic Smartphone Go on Sale and What Will It Cost?
The indigenous and national smartphone is expected to go on sale in the first half of 2027. No clear figure has yet been shared regarding pricing. However, different price segments are planned across the models. It is stated that the accessible model's price will be kept at a level everyone can afford, while the high-end model will go on sale at a higher price. The public sector-exclusive encrypted model is expected to be distributed through a different procurement model, as it will only be offered to public sector employees.
