New Capability from Bayraktar TB3 in Anti-Submarine Warfare: Sonobuoy Signal Processing Test Successful

Bayraktar TB3 tested its sonobuoy signal processing capability during an exercise conducted from TCG Anadolu. The UCAV deployed 2 sonobuoys from the SAS POD and also processed data from the maritime patrol aircraft.

Bayraktar TB3 has successfully completed another critical test in the field of anti-submarine warfare. According to the development announced via Selçuk Bayraktar's social media account, the national UCAV tested its sonobuoy signal processing capability during an exercise conducted from TCG Anadolu. Bayraktar TB3 operated in full coordination with the maritime patrol aircraft in the operational area.

Sonobuoy Deployment via Underwing SAS POD

One of the most notable phases of the test was Bayraktar TB3's successful deployment of two sonobuoys into the sea via the Baykar SAS POD carried under its wing during flight. Sonobuoys are known as sensor platforms that listen to and process underwater acoustic waves to detect submarines. Among the most critical components of anti-submarine warfare, sonobuoys have traditionally been used by maritime patrol aircraft and helicopters. Bayraktar TB3's acquisition of this capability significantly expands the role of unmanned aerial vehicles in anti-submarine warfare.

Critical Threshold in Data Integration

One of the most critical phases of the test was data integration. During the operation, Bayraktar TB3 processed not only the data from the sonobuoys it deployed itself, but also the data from sonobuoys deployed by the maritime patrol aircraft on duty, using its onboard sonobuoy processing unit. This demonstrates that data sharing and joint operational capability between different platforms were tested. The national UCAV also successfully carried out real-time display of the underwater data obtained within the exercise environment.

TCG Anadolu's Aviation Capability Expands

The conduct of the test from TCG Anadolu also demonstrates the integration capability of Türkiye's largest naval platform with air assets. Bayraktar TB3 holds the distinction of being the first armed unmanned aerial vehicle capable of taking off from and landing on TCG Anadolu's deck. With the addition of sonobuoy signal processing capability, TB3 has reached a level where it can play an effective role across a broad mission spectrum, from anti-submarine warfare to intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and from strike missions to electronic warfare.
