Turkish defense company System Defence has produced the world's lightest open-system dual-feed machine gun.
Named MFR56, this rifle weighs 4.25 kg and is classified as an ultra-light machine gun. The MFR56 successfully passed rigorous qualification tests, including mud tests, drop tests, and cold weather tests, and currently has 9 different patent applications pending approval.
System Defence's original design, the MFR56, is available in two different systems – Open Bolt and Closed Bolt – to meet the preferences of various law enforcement agencies in different countries. The MFR56's dual-feed top-feed system is protected by four separate System Defence patents.
The MFR56 is specifically designed for local operations. Surpassing its counterparts in size and weight, the MFR56 provides an advantage in field and deployment environments where the movement and maneuverability of security forces are restricted. With its quick barrel change and forged barrel features, the MFR56 offers longevity, robustness, and reliability, making it widely used by military units, naval forces, special forces, and police departments.

The design and development process of the MFR56 was completed with tests and feedback from special law enforcement field units, and it was made ready for use with realistic operational simulations. Manufactured in System Defence factories in Türkiye, the MFR56, with its dual-feed design, allows security forces to use it with both magazine and belt.
