The first domestically produced helicopter to fly with a domestically produced engine: GÖKBEY

GÖKBEY successfully completed its first test flight with the TS1400 Turboshaft Engine produced by TEI.

The GÖKBEY helicopter, developed domestically by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), successfully completed its first test flight with the TS1400 Turboshaft Engine produced by TEI.

The project, implemented under the contract signed between the Presidency of Defence Industries and TUSAŞ, represents a first in the history of aviation.

Testing and certification activities continue for the T625 GÖKBEY Helicopter, an original project of TUSAŞ (Turkish Aerospace Industries). Serial production is also underway, and three units will be delivered to the Gendarmerie General Command in 2023. Thanks to its wide range of capabilities, the GÖKBEY Helicopter can be used in transport, VIP, cargo, air ambulance, search and rescue, and offshore transport missions. For both domestic and international users, the GÖKBEY Helicopter can effectively perform its missions even in the most challenging climates and geographies, at high altitudes and temperatures, and in both day and night conditions, thanks to its domestically produced TS1400 Turboshaft Engines.

The TS1400 engine could be an option not only for the GÖKBEY helicopter but also for the T129 ATAK attack helicopter. After the necessary modifications are completed, the military version of this engine is planned to be used in the T129 ATAK helicopter in the future.

The fact that the GÖKBEY Helicopter flew with a domestically produced engine made a significant contribution to Türkiye's goal of independence in the defense industry. TUSAŞ and TEI employees, who dedicated great effort to the development and production of the national TS1400 Turboshaft Engine, were congratulated on social media by TUSAŞ General Manager Temel Kotil and the Head of the Defense Industry, İsmail Demir.
